CSL day 3 began with a quiet morning on my part. Classes didn't engage in activities until after lunch, so I was mostly listening and watching my home room and the phys-ed/ math teacher lecture. The two are very different. The homeroom is a physically large room with an unorthodox configuration. The blackboard is in the back corner of the class so that definitely has an impact. The math/ phys-ed teacher has her class in rows, and runs some what of a "keep up, or fall behind" class. A resource teacher frequents the class to help those in need. The homeroom teacher is more accommodating than the math/ phys-ed teacher.. However, students often lack motivation in the homeroom.
The homeroom grade 8's were finishing painting backdrops for their tableaus today. Some students were definitely more motivated than others.
The girls were fairly enthusiastic and completed their backdrops with little oversight, just some help mixing paints and so on. I couldn't get one group of boys going until the last 10 minutes, but they kicked it in gear and cranked out their backdrops. The other group of boys were 7 strong, and half the battle was keeping their backdrop in one piece.. In the end they managed to finish the project as well.
I'm going to be teaching a geography and an art lesson next week. I'm not quite sure what I'll be putting together for the geography lesson, but I know I would like to show the students my portfolio during our art class. I think they'd benefit from seeing what projects can come about further along a creative path. I worked at wonderland building the Halloween haunt so I bet they'll think that's pretty cool.
